The Bocan Women Who Inspire Our Dresses

Dresses are quintessential to a woman’s wardrobe. Whether it’s a cotton summer dress to lounge in on a warm day, long-sleeved dresses or zippered dresses for something more demure, a slip dress for a flirty evening out, maternity dress clothes for the expectant mother, or even your go-to women’s silk sleepwear, Bocan Couture has something for every woman, no matter the stage of her life. Founded by three female founders who have always looked to iconic women throughout history for inspiration, the Bocan aesthetic is a distillation of the spirit embodied by all these model women and mothers. Read on for the top 3 icons who inspire Bocan.

Queen Rania of Jordan:

Beyond her distinctive style, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan is a passionate advocate for children and was appointed UNICEF's first Eminent Advocate for Children in 2007. The mother of four is a tireless champion of education, and Her Majesty works constantly to make the world a better place, all while looking incredibly chic, be it in a white, knee-length shirt dress or billowing chiffon gown. Like Her Majesty, the Abelia trimmed long zippered dress with its flattering silhouette and subtle details is a gorgeous blend of modest and modern, while the Eira zippered dress in beige, grey or off-white easily falls into her Queen Rania’s repertoire of collared classics.

Audrey Hepburn:

Exuding sophistication, simplicity and timeless beauty, Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn has been inspiring women’s style since her world-renowned roles in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday. Throughout her career, the legendary actress and philanthropist has maintained her unique style, often seen in an elegant, button-up coat or a swingy, A-lined dress. Even as she entered motherhood, her dresses remained classic and sleek--all paired with perfectly coiffed hair and ballet flats, of course. Our Flint luxury silk chiffon trimmed dress would surely have found favour with the screen siren, with its lace-trimmed sleeves and flowy silhouette. Hepburn, who loved a short-sleeve style, would have looked darling in our cotton poplin dresses in Nile green or light blue, finished with a fluttery hemline.

Grace Kelly:

The Oscar-winning star who later became Princess Grace of Monaco is old Hollywood glamour personified. The embodiment of poise and grace, her style both on and off screen has always epitomised elegance, making her one of the most enviable style stars in cinematic history.  Besides a fondness for hats and gloves, Kelly was often seen wearing classic shirtwaist dresses, especially during pregnancy, and also long-sleeved columns in intricate lace, much like our Bocan Couture silk chiffon embellished dress, or puff-sleeved gowns like our Celeste long rayon dress. We could just see Kelly swanning about in our Esther long trimmed dress in the Palace of Monaco.
